Using state-of-the-art, PC-based technology, SoundByte Studios can take your self-recorded project from any stage of progress, and see it through to completion. We can handle any stage of the project completion continuum.
MixingMost recording studios can offer you a producer who is a competent musician. Few can offer one who is a professional conductor. At no step in the recording process is this more important than the mixdown. Recording sessions are completed on multitrack recorders, giving the engineer a great deal of control over the ensemble's balance. Who better to handle this step of the process? The multitrack mixing process at SoundByte Studios is completed using Cubase SX, a state-of-the-art multitrack recording software, allowing us to make very precise, minute balancing adjustments. EditingWith the ability to drill down to sample level for editing (on a typical recording, we use a sample rate of 48,000 samples per second), we have the ability to edit with extreme precision. This allows us to piece together a single version of a recorded work, based upon the best parts of multiple takes - even on a phrase by phrase basis, if necessary! In a concert recording, or other single take setting, editing allows us to take out some time between pieces, taper lengthy applause, etc. Our editing is done on Cubase SX or Sony SoundForge, depending upon the needs of the specific edit. MasteringOur mastering process is meticulous, artistic, and sensitive. It can be as simple as adding in subtle equalization and compression, or as complex as adding a full MIDI orchestration, or using one of a series of high end digital reverb algorithms to place your recording into a stunning virtual concert hall. Most of our mastering is completed on Sony SoundForge, although we periodically run the sound through one or more of our outboard processing units. Digital master creationOnce the audio work is complete, we carefully burn it down to a CD master, which is turned over to the client or passed on to SoundByte Manufacturing for production. Usually taken for granted, the master creation process can be very delicate, as the CD-R format is notoriously error-fraught. |
